A Healthier Me! Or You! Or Whoever

Everyone's goal at one time or another is to make healthier choices. Fast food is quickly becoming an epidemic because it is fast, cheap, and convenient but also extremely unhealthy. I am guilty of this! Back when I moved to Florida, my boyfriend at the time and I did not eat fast food because we could not afford to. Instead, we chose to spend what little extra money we had on food and make homemade meals every day. Since I didn't work full time, the responsibility fell on me to cook all of the meals. Surprisingly I found myself enjoying learning how to cook, even if my concoctions didn't always turn out so well. Although my boyfriend never complained! With fast food out of my life, I actually lost 20 pounds over the course of a year. Side note, I did not do any sort of exercising or eat healthy by any means. Just ate home cooked meals.

Moving back from Florida, I have gained every pound back in another years time all because of fast food! I am making more money now, and I live at home with my parents so I don't really have my own space to cook my meals. This is not an excuse, meal prepping is easy and if you actually make yourself do it and get into the routine of things then it's not so hard. The hard part is deciding what to meal prep, and what not to meal prep.

There are a couple of different ways you can meal prep. When I had my own apartment, I would make one big meal and split it up into however many meals I needed for the week. I usually did lunch and dinner because of the hours I was working. My go-to meal was chicken and green beans with a side of macaroni & cheese. The problem was I would get tired of the same meal day after day, so I would end up not eating my meals and it became a waste of time, money, and energy.

Another problem I faced was not washing my Tupperware. Tupperware is amazing for storing things, keeping your food fresh, and they're convenient to transport. However, if you do not wash them then obviously they are going to be gross! This is just pure laziness on my part. Recently I read something that said "If it takes less than 5 minutes to do, then just do it. If you don't, it'll take longer to do it later." This really hit home for me, because if you think about it, a lot of the stuff we put off doing on a day to day basis takes less than 5 minutes to do. So just do it!

What you and I and people like us need to do is find a meal prep plan that follows a few guidelines:
  1. Must be easy, of course
  2. Variety! Everything should vary in color, flavor, and texture. You don't want all mushy sides or all savory main dishes
  3. Obviously everything has to taste good
  4. Do not repeat a meal more than twice per week and have a 2 week rotation.

P.S. I am not using GIFs at the moment because they’re pissing me off. I may add some later because what’s a post without moving pictures to look at?
