HE WRITES SAD BOOKS. ALL OF HIS BOOKS ARE TRAGIC AND THEY DON'T END THE WAY THAT YOU WOULD EXPECT.
Which is why I love him. And hate him. At the same damn time!
John Green is actually an amazing writer. I've read a couple of his books and I'm happy with the style of writing and the plot of each one is captivating. His character building skills are on point and it's easy for the reader to visualize the story while they are immersed in it.
He's one writer that seems to be very active on social media, and while being book famous, John Green also seems to be kind of an internet sensation. From what I see, he has a good sense of humor. AND A TWISTED WRITER'S MIND. Sorry for the outburst. I'm perpetually angry about his books.
The first one of his books that I read was "The Fault In Our Stars" and oh boy. I read it all in one day on my Kindle app. Then I re-read it the next day, hoping the ending would change. It didn't. WARNING: If you have not read the book, or seen the movie, then read no further!
Short and choppy summary: The main characters are Hazel Lancaster and Augustus Waters. It's a love story from the start, but there's one thing that differentiates this couple from the rest: Hazel has lung cancer. Augustus Waters had cancer but was in remission. Notice how I said "was"..... Augustus and Hazel fall in love. Then they go to Amsterdam to meet Hazel's favorite author. While he's there, Augustus tells Hazel that his cancer is back, and he's going to die.
THAT IS JUST SO WRONG. WHY. So basically at the end of the book Augustus dies and Hazel is devastated. Some part of you hoped that he magically was cured and would live. But that's not life, and that's another reason John Green's books are so good. They're real.
The only other John Green book I've read is Paper Towns. It's not sad in the sense that someone dies, but basically the girl doesn't fall in love with the boy. That's as real as it gets folks. Many, many people can relate because this is something that happens to almost everyone at least once.
Now, Paper Towns and The Fault In Our Stars have both been made into movies, and the movies weren't half bad. The books were still better, which is the case in every situation. There's just something about watching tragedy on screen that makes it a teensy bit worse than reading it.
All in all, I would recommend John Green's books to anyone and everyone but that doesn't stop me from wanting to punch him in the face.
P.S. John Green, if you ever read this, just know that I admire and respect you as a writer and I wouldn't actually punch you in the face but I might scowl at you while simultaneously asking for your autograph.
