Being prepared

It occurred to me as I was walking to class about a half mile from where I parked that I should have gotten an umbrella. Florida will rain even when it's completely sunny outside so it's good to be prepared. You would think after living here 2 months now I would have one, and I really have been meaning to invest in a nice umbrella but alas I am a procrastinator.

Most of the time it's not a big deal if it rains but I'm not exaggerating when I say that it's a good half mile walk back to my car. While my phone may be water resistant, my computer is not. Worst case scenario I can hide under some shelter until the rain passes, which it usually does in a few minutes.

Being prepared for whatever scenario might occur is something that I'm always worried about. Well, worried isn't the right word but I just like to be prepared. If I had a bag like Mary Poppins I would be the happiest, and most prepared, person in the whole world. Better yet, I'll take one of the bags Hermione Granger had. I think this is the reason why I have 1,000 purses, I'm trying to find my Mary Poppins bag.

I thought I had finally found the perfect purse to carry all of my stuff in it, but it was getting kind of heavy to carry around. I do have a backpack that I like to use from time to time but when you walk into Rue 21 with a backpack you tend to get followed around by the employees making sure you don't steal anything. Plus, my current backpack has all of my school stuff in it so I can't just lug it around everywhere because it does weigh 100 pounds. OH MY GOODNESS okay so I'm actually sitting outside on a bench waiting for my next class to start and this girl walks by with a ROLLING BACKPACK how genius is that.

Really I'm typing aimlessly trying to kill an HOUR before my next class starts because I got out of my first class 20 minutes after it started. Something I don't understand is how people can be out in this heat walking around and not even sweating???? As soon as I step foot outside I am just drenched in sweat, it's so gross. Maybe I should dress more appropriately for the weather. I'm really insecure about my arms and my legs so I don't wear a lot of shorts or even tank tops. Not to mention my hair, being curly and right at that length where it's on my neck so it makes me even more sweaty and gross.

The good thing is right now there's a slight breeze which does mean it's probably going to rain in the next few minutes. Nonetheless it feels amazing. I suppose it's my own fault for wearing jeans but now I know. The parking situation at FAU sucks. There's A LOT of parking spaces. But, they are designated by 2 statuses. 1 is resident, and 2 is commuter. Resident means the students who are living on campus. They have the parking right up close and personal to the residence halls, which happen to be right next to the buildings where all of my classes are in this semester. So, hence having to walk a half mile to my classes. Once it cools off it won't be so bad, plus I don't have to worry about snow. The commuters only have a couple of parking lots and they fill up pretty quickly. Having classes so late in the day is a disadvantage because all of the parking lots are usually filled up still from earlier classes.

Next semester all of my classes will be in the morning so I won't need to worry too much hopefully. The contents of my purse range from chapstick to a knife. I have tampons, face wash, floss, lipstick, deodorant, perfume, phone charger, usb stick, headphones, water flavor packets, my wallet, hand sanitizer, usually some form of candy, a monthly planner, contact solution, and my glasses just to name a few things. It's almost like a form of OCD, I put things in my purse that I could probably use at some point throughout the day. Most of the time, honestly, I don't use any of the things in my purse. But, again, it's better to be prepared. The one thing I can't put in there yet is a gun, and that's because I'm only 20. You can bet your sweet butt that as soon as my 21st birthday hits I will be at the gun range getting my conceal and carry license. (You have to have one in Florida, unlike Kansas)

Many people are opposed to guns but I don't care. I was in the Army for 2 years, I went through basic training twice and completed almost all of advanced individual training (AIT, basically training for your military job) for an Army police officer. Once I take the conceal carry class, I will be MORE than proficient enough to carry a weapon on me at all times. It's just something that I think would make me feel safer, especially with how things are nowadays. Now, I could really get into the topic of gun laws and my opinions on such but as I have said it is a taboo topic on my blog so I will move on.

Preferably I carry a bottle of water on me at all times but I usually drink it early on and then I'm just left with emptiness. I could use a refillable waterbottle but I ALWAYS spill it. I could just refill my plastic throwaway water bottle, and I usually do, but after awhile it gets gross. I'll figure it out eventually.

Not only do I like to be prepared but I like to be organized. Since I subscribe to Ipsy, I get a small makeup bag each month. This is an OCD person's dream because do you know how easy it is to be organized when you have 20 different bags you can categorize and put stuff in, inside of your purse or backpack? SO AWESOME. I love it. Right now as I am typing this a duck is waddling my way. Ducks in Florida are so weird looking, they are black, white, and red unlike Kansas ducks that are classic looking ducks. Alex (boyfriend) knows everything about ducks so he could tell you the names and species or what not but I can't.

IT'S STARTING TO SPRINKLE so I think I'm going to put away my computer now.
